Enzalutamide comes as a tablet or a capsule to take by mouth. Take with or without food once a day. Take enzalutamide at around the same time every day.

Take enzalutamide exactly as directed. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Swallow the tablets or capsules whole with water; do not crush, chew, divide, dissolve, or open them. Take tablets and capsules with enough water to make sure that they are swallowed whole, as they can get stuck in your throat or cause choking or gagging.

Your doctor may tell you to stop taking enzalutamide for a short time or decrease your dose if you experience serious side effects during your treatment. Be sure to talk to your doctor about how you are feeling during your treatment with enzalutamide.

If your doctor has prescribed another medication such as degarelix (Firmagon®), goserelin (Zoladex®), histrelin (Supprelin® LA, Vantas®), leuprolide (Eligard®, Lupron®, others), or triptorelin (Trelstar®, Triptodur®) to treat your prostate cancer, you will need to continue receiving this medication during your treatment with enzalutamide.

Continue to take enzalutamide even if you feel well. Do not stop taking enzalutamide without talking to your doctor.

• the following herbal product may interact with enzalutamide: St. John's wort. Be sure to let your doctor and pharmacist know that you are taking this medication before you start taking enzalutamide. Do not start this medication while taking enzalutamide without discussing with your healthcare provider.
• tell your doctor if you have problems swallowing, or if you have or have ever had seizures, a brain injury, a brain tumor, a brain arteriovenous malformation (abnormal connection between arteries and veins in the brain that forms before birth and may cause bleeding in the brain), broken bones, osteoporosis (a condition in which the bones become thin and weak and break easily), diabetes, high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, heart disease, or have had a stroke or ministroke.
• you should know that enzalutamide is only for use in men. Women should not take this medication, especially if they are or may become pregnant or are breast-feeding. Women, especially those who are or who may become pregnant should not touch enzalutamide capsules. If taken by pregnant women, enzalutamide may harm the fetus. Headache, hot flashes, weakness, and high blood pressure are common side effects of this medicine. Other than this, yellowing of the skin, loss of appetite, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, dark urine, and skin rashes might be observed as side effects. Regular blood tests are required to check your blood cells and liver function during treatment with this medicine. It makes your skin more sensitive towards sunlight; hence take extra caution while going out.

Before taking it, tell your doctor if you have diabetes, seizures, liver, or kidney problems or are taking any medicines to treat infections. Many other medicines can affect or be affected by this, so let your doctor know all your medications. You may be asked to monitor blood glucose levels while on treatment regularly. What are the possible side effects of Nexavar ?

• rash, blisters, oozing, or severe pain in the palms of your hands or the soles of your feet;
• increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, seizure);
• easy bruising, unusual bleeding;
• black, bloody, or tarry stools;
• coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;
• chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
• feeling short of breath, even with mild exertion;
• swelling, rapid weight gain;
• sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body; or
• confusion, loss of balance or coordination, or seizure (convulsions).

Less serious side effects may include:

• numbness, tingling, or swelling of your hands or feet;
• nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, stomach pain, loss of appetite;
• headache, tired feeling;
• tumor pain;
• pain in your joints, bones, or mouth;
• cough, trouble breathing;
• weight loss;
• hair loss; or
• dry, itchy skin.

What is the most important information:

• Nexavar can cause high blood pressure (hypertension). Before using this medication, tell your doctor if you have a history of hypertension. Your blood pressure will need to be checked on a regular basis while you are using Nexavar.
• Call your doctor at once if you have serious side effects such as rash, blisters, oozing, or severe pain in the palms of your hands or the soles of your feet; unusual bruising or bleeding; chest pain spreading to the arm or shoulder; feeling short of breath; or sudden numbness or weakness.
• Using Nexavar while you are pregnant can cause harm to the unborn baby. Do not use this medication if you are pregnant. Tell your doctor if you become pregnant during treatment. Both men and women taking Nexavar should use an effective form of birth control while taking the medication and for at least 2 weeks after treatment ends.
